How To Install Drivers In Windows 10

For external devices like printer or mouse, the corresponding driver software CD comes along the with the device at the time of purchase. We just need to insert the CD and install the driver for the device in the system. If the device does not have any CD, then we need to manually visit the product website and download the driver from there.

The driver softwares can be found anywhere in the internet for free just by typing the driver name followed by download. But it is always trustworthy to download the driver from the manufacturer website. These driver softwares are usually found in the support page or download page of the computer manufacturer website. In my case I want to download and install the driver software for the network card in my Dell Inspiron 7537 laptop.

The network card driver can be downloaded from the Laptop manufacturer website and here it is Dell website. The driver can be found by clicking the Driver and Downloads present under the Support tab in the home page.

Now I need to select the laptop model for which I need the driver software. There are two options available for me here, either I can browse and choose my laptop or I can use the auto detect option which automatically identifies my laptop model and configuration.

Once the system model is selected, all the drivers available for that laptop will be listed down. Now I can search for the driver which I need and download them. Here I need driver for my network card, and I could see 5 files available.

Now download the desired file by clicking on it.

Once downloaded, open the driver file and install it in the laptop. Now I am able to see that my network card is able to identify other network and connect to the internet.

While the above steps are the same for almost all the drivers, in some cases you need to manually choose the operating system of your system. If in case the driver is not available for a windows 10 OS, then find the latest OS for which the driver is available and try to download it. Also make sure to check if the version of the driver being downloaded matches with the OS version. For example if the OS is 64-bit, then the driver must also be a 64-bit one. There are also cases where you may have the correct driver installed but still that particular device may not function properly. There are two ways to update the driver.

First method is automatic update, if the auto update option is turned on in your windows 10 PC, then the drivers will be updated automatically without any issue.

The second method is to manually select the driver and update it. For this right click on the My computer icon present in your desktop and select Properties.

Now select the Device Manager present in the left panel.

Now search for the driver that needs to be updated. Then right click on it and select the Update driver software which will update the driver and thereby making the corresponding device to function properly.
