How To Speed Up The Computer Performance

Everyone of us would have noticed that our computer perform more effectively and with a lot of speed during the initial days after we had bought but the performance tend to decrease over the days which is clearly visible. This is because initially there will be very limited programs running in the computer, but as we start using it we will be installing more software and other program which all start running in the background. So we might want to know how to speed up the computer performance, as no one will be interested to work on a computer which performs poorly and takes a lot of time to execute each action that we do on it.

There are many small things if followed properly can cause a significant impact on our computer performance. Let’s discuss about all these tips in detail that can help to improve the speed of the computer and perform more efficiently.

1. Cleaning the desktop:

If your desktop is loaded with unwanted files and folders then it can affect the performance of the computer to some extent. So it is better to maintain a clean desktop with only the most commonly used applications. It is also a good practice to keep the files and folders in a local drive than keeping them on the desktop and crowding it. It will also make your desktop to look better.

2. Remove all the unwanted programs:

The computer gradually slows down as more programs and applications begin to run. You might have used a software some months back and now you no longer need it, in this case it is simply using up the system resource and wasting up your memory and thereby slowing down the computer performance. Removing it from the system can free up the resources and improve the performance. So remove all such programs that are not needed anymore from the system.

You can do it by opening the control panel and then select Programs and Features option, then go through the list of programs that are installed on your computer and select the ones that are not needed and uninstall them. Doing this can drastically speed up your computer performance

3. Stop all the background processes that are not needed:

Many processes or applications continue to run in the background when the computer is turned on though you might not be using them. As a result they make use of the system resources, so closing these processes can free up the resources and increase the speed of the computer to some extent. If you open the Task manager, you will be seeing a lot of application running but you might not be using all of them. So try to end those processes that are not needed, but make sure that you are not closing any system processes.

4. Avoid starting programs along with windows startup:

There are some programs or application which launches along with the windows startup. This can increase your loading time once you turn on your windows. This can be avoided by not selecting the ‘Start along with windows startup’ option when installing the program or the software.

5. Adjusting your computer visual effects:

You can also speed up the performance of your computer by adjusting the visual effects. To do this just select ‘System properties’ in My computer, then select Advanced system settings on the left side of the screen, now click on the settings option under the performance box and then select the ‘Adjust for best performance’ option. This can cause changes to the animations used and the appearance of the menu bar and other side bars etc. and thereby improve the performance.

6. Scan and remove viruses:

The performance of the computer can be drastically affected if the computer is infected with virus and other malwares. It can cause damage to all the files that are stored in your system and will not allow for a smooth functioning of the PC. In this case you need to scan and completely remove them from the system to restore back the lost performance. See how to remove the virus from your computer.

It is better to have a good antivirus program installed on your PC to protect your system from viruses and malwares. It is a good practice to scan your computer frequently, say weekly once in order to keep the viruses away from your system. You can clearly see the difference in the performance before and after removing the viruses.

7. Cleaning the disk:

Your hard drive may be accumulated with lot of temporary and unnecessary files which occupies the system memory. So deleting these files can actually increase the performance of the system to a large extent. You can make use of the Disk Cleanup tool available under the administrative tools in control panel to perform this activity, because it is not feasible to delete the files manually.

8. Disk Defragmentation:

Each time we save any file or program it gets stored in different places of the memory storage, so when we try to open the file the computer searches for all the fragmented pieces of the file to open it. This slows down the performance of the computer as it takes more time to search for the files and open it.

Disk defragmentation can increase the performance of your computer drastically by collection all the fragmented piece of information of a file and storing them in a single place and thereby reducing the fetching time whenever we try to open it. Disk defragmentation does this for all the files present in the computer, so it may take some time to complete. It is also a good practice to defragment the disk frequently if we are extensively working on a large number of files and programs as it helps in maintain the performance of the computer.
