
YouTube is the largest platform that people use to watch videos of any kind. It has a huge following and many users spend their entire day on the platform.
Google maintains YouTube well but often it happens that the site just does not work and there is no way to know if the problem is specific to you. If the problem is pertaining to you then you may follow the below steps to ensure it does.
Fix For Android Devices
Fix 1- Device restarting
For YouTube not working your first solution could be as simple as restarting the device. Doing that closes any other apps in the background that could be causing problems in the platform working properly.
- Press and hold the power button on your phone
- The option to restart phone will appear, click on it
- Once the device is restarted try playing a video from YouTube
Fix 2- Check the internet connection
The Wi-Fi could be another reason for your YouTube not working correctly. In case you notice that YouTube is not working you must see if your internet connection is fine.
You will have to open the settings menu to be able to see if everything is ok. Sometimes the internet is showing connected but still, the router is working up.
- Open the Settings app on your phone
- Connect to any network that you find
- Open YouTube and try playing any song
Fix 3- Updating the operating system
There is always a chance that it is your outdated version of Android that is causing a problem. You will have to open the setting menu and choose “System updates” so that any new updates can be installed. Once you have downloaded the update run it and let your mobile reboot.
- Open settings menu
- Go to the about phone folder and click on system updates
- If there is an update download and install it
Fix 4- Clear apps cache and data
The next you can do is clear all cache and data from YouTube. By doing that you can get rid of temporary data and all app data and settings. Go to settings on Phone then tap “apps” and click on YouTube.
Then you have to choose “storage” which gives two options that is clear data and clear cache. First clear cache and see if the problem is resolved. If not then clear data as well to see if YouTube is working.

Fix 5- Check the date and time settings
You may find it hard to believe but sometimes the date and time settings can also be troublesome. Go to settings and then tap on “Date and time” and ensure that the automatic date and time have been set up.
- Open your settings menu
- Tap on “date and time”
- Turn on the “Automatic date and time” option given
Fix 6- Updating your YouTube app
All apps have updates happening regularly and maybe you missed updating YouTube. Go to Google play store and then click on my apps and games. Find YouTube and see if it has an update pending. If yes then click on it to update the same.
- Open the Google play store
- Now click on My apps and games
- If you see an update button next to YouTube click on it to start the updates.
Fixes Of YouTube Not Working For The PC
Fix 1- Updating chrome
If chrome is the browser you are using for watching YouTube then maybe you should update it and see. To do that you must first click on three dots icon on top.
Then go to help and choose “About Google Chrome.” A page will open and if there is an update click on it and start the updates.

- Go to help and then select “About Google Chrome”
- Click on “Install” if there is an update mentioned there
Fix 2-Checking internet connection
Search on Google or open any other website to see if the internet is working perfectly. You may even reset the router or call the ISP to know if there is an issue.
Fix 3- Turn on JavaScript
You need to have JavaScript enabled on your phone to be able to see YouTube. Go to chrome settings and then click on “Advanced” mentioned at the bottom.
Then select “site settings” which is under “Privacy and security” header. Choose the “JavaScript” button and enable allowed.
- Click three vertical dots icon on top and select the settings
- Now select “Advanced” at the bottom and then site settings
- Lastly, click the “JavaScript” button and enable allowed and check if YouTube is playing fine
Fix 4-Check extensions
Sometimes certain extensions can stop YouTube from working correctly. To check if that is the reason try opening YouTube in an incognito tab.
The extensions would not work the same. If YouTube is playing find out the extension that you downloaded at the same time. Remove it and your problem is solved.
- Click three vertical dots icon on the top
- Now choose “More Tools” and then “extensions”
- Disable/delete the extensions that could be the reason for your YouTube not working
Fix 5-Clear Cache and cookies
Clearing the cache and cookies could work if the previous step has not simplified things. First click on the three vertical dots present on the top and then “More tools” and then select on the “Clear browsing data.”
Choose the “All time” option from the drop-down and proceed.
